Fraud Alert in Rochester, NY

BE AWARE!

Coronavirus is just another opportunity for scammers to get your money.  Keep these tips in mind to protect yourself.

Do not respond to calls, texts, or emails about money from the government. Government agencies such as the IRS do not make contact this way.

Do not give out personal or bank account information to anyone, even people you know.  This includes PIN numbers, usernames, and passwords for online banking.  Financial institutions, including Advantage Federal Credit Union, do NOT need your card PIN or your online banking password to assist you. Friends and family do not need access to your login information to send you money. Contact AFCU immediately if you have already given out this information.

Do not pay anyone to get your relief payment.  There are no fees to get your money.

For payment info Visit .https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus-tax-relief-and-economic-impact-payments

Do not agree to let friends and family deposit unemployment or relief funds in your account.

If someone you know wants to deposit their funds in your account and have you send them the money, STOP. These funds are often fraudulently obtained leaving you on hook for paying them back. If you do not believe a friend or family member would do that, ask them more questions about the funds.  Someone could be scamming them.

Remember, we are here to help. If you are unsure of a payment you received or unsure of a payment request, contact us.  585.454.5900, x5.
