Banking on Student Success
Fairport School District Partners with Advantage Federal Credit Union
Fairport School District has partnered with Advantage Federal Credit Union; both share a passion for financial literacy for students and the community. In the Fall of 2019, Fairport will have its own student- run credit union in the high school offering students the experience of the real world while not yet being in the real world.
This is an amazing opportunity for students to have real life hands-on experience of running a business while learning real life skills of budgeting and banking. The curriculum will cover all aspects of the business including Accounting, Lending, Marketing, Human Resources, Collections, Fraud, Compliance, Member Service and Business Development.
Advantage Federal Credit Union was established in 1931 as the Teacher’s Credit Union.
A small group of teachers and administrators began meeting due to their frustrations with large banks. They worked together to earn higher interest rates on savings and found ways to lend money to fellow employees in need.
Today Advantage still serves the Rochester City School District along with some major employers in Rochester including the University of Rochester, Rochester Regional Health, and RIT, along with over 70 other employee groups.
Advantage also serves individuals and their family members who live, work, worship, volunteer or go to school in the City of Rochester. Advantage FCU is committed to youth financial education.
Advantage Federal Credit Union offers:
- Youth accounts
- Financial Literacy to their members and employee groups
- Internship opportunities
- Scholarships for High School seniors
